Harley-Davidson of North Texas Moves to New Dealership in Carrollton, Texas
Bob Moore Construction Finishes Construction on Largest "Hog" Dealership in Dallas / Fort Worth
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - February 21, 2008 - When Harley-Davidson of North Texas outgrew their existing facility in Carrollton, Texas, they called on Bob Moore Construction to create an exciting new building right along Interstate-35 for their growing business.
"We just outgrew the old building," said Todd Martin, General Manager of Harley-Davidson of North Texas. "We wanted something close by but very visible from the highway - It was important that we get something to really stand out along I-35. A larger showroom was important to us, as was an impressive looking service department."
The new building provides Harley-Davidson of North Texas with 50,000 SF of space over two stories, making it the largest "Hog" dealership in Dallas / Fort Worth. The exterior is clad with a brick façade on the front and sides to match the look of the original Harley-Davidson manufacturing plant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A dramatic 42' tower atrium with a brick façade stands above the front entrance to the dealership, easily visible to passing motorists.
The main showroom features decorative bands of thin brick veneer with additional bands and accents of dark wood on all walls. Structural columns are clad with steel and brick veneer. The floor is covered with imported ceramic floor tiling alternating with brick. Along one wall of the showroom are the sales offices, set apart from the showroom visually with a 100% brick veneer façade. Displayed around the showroom are multiple LCD panels mounted on walls and columns that show video clips and product information that are downloaded by satellite from Harley-Davidson's corporate offices every day.
The parts and accessories departments are set in the rear of the store and feature a large assortment of functional and accent lights, and are finished in wood with brick flooring. Next to the parts department, a large staircase with brick pilasters capped in wood and connected with steel handrails leads customers to the second floor and the H.O.G Room, a relaxation area with couches and a big-screen television for Harley Owners Guild members. The 9,100 SF T-shaped second floor also includes training facilities and administrative offices.
The 20,100 SF service area includes 26 cycle lifts on cylinders that extend into the ground through the slab. The service department also includes a Dynometer room and exhaust rail system. The floor is covered with a special epoxy material to provide a durable, attractive finish to the space. Surrounding the service department are storage spaces to accommodate dozens of motorcycles.
To the rear of the building, a large paved area enclosed in a wrought iron fence provides secure storage for the dealership's equipment. Behind the storage area is a large open concrete pad where customers can receive training and test out the bikes.
"The new building turned out great," added Martin. "Our customers were used to our old location, which was hard to get to and didn't have a lot of space. They love the new building - we've received nothing but positive comments."
"We're very pleased with how the Harley-Davidson of North Texas dealership turned out," said Ed McGuire, Vice President of Construction for Bob Moore Construction. "The atrium tower and brick façade provide for a dramatic exterior and presence along the Interstate 35. The interior finish-out is truly striking, a real show piece to demonstrate the kind of interiors we can deliver. It was great, working with Todd Martin and the folks with Harley-Davidson of North Texas as well. It's always a pleasure to work with people who are so enthusiastic and excited about the building."
"Our experience was very good," said Martin. "Ed McGuire and site superintendents Randy Portales and Greg Holland all knew we had a deadline. They pushed it all the way through and got us in there when we needed to be there. Any time we needed something from Ed he jumped right on it."
