The Controller serves as the primary financial advisor within the company, providing strategic oversight and ensuring financial accuracy and compliance throughout the organization. While project teams and department leads manage day-to-day operational decisions, the Controller focuses on developing robust financial controls, analyzing monthly financial performance, supervising accounting processes, and ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements. This position is pivotal in maintaining financial health, accuracy, and transparency, aligning financial operations seamlessly with the company’s overarching goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial controls aligned with company policies.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Supervise accounting department staff and contract administrators.
- Ensure accuracy in financial systems, including AR/AP, General Ledger, Payroll, Job Costing, Fixed Assets, and WIP Schedules.
- Review and monitor project budgets, costs, commitments, and forecasts to identify variances.
- Coordinate annual budgeting processes and monthly financial forecasting.
- Assist in evaluating and implementing new financial systems and reporting tools.
- Collaborate closely with project teams and department leads, providing financial insights and support.
- Act as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Monitor and manage lien waiver requirements for subcontractor and supplier payments.
- Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal financial and tax regulations.
- Continuously seek improvements in financial procedures and processes.
- Maintain high accuracy and customer service standards within the accounting team.
- Manage accounting team workloads, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Serve as a resource for employees regarding financial questions and concerns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance – required
- CPA – preferred, not required
- Construction Accounting Background – preferred, not required
- Extensive experience in Excel with competencies in Pivot Tables, V-lookups, and other key spreadsheet functions
